The Kurinji Andavar Temple is a small, serene temple of Lord Murugan on the outskirts of Kodaikanal. It takes its name from the Kurinji (Strobilanthes kunthiana), a shrub that carpets these hills with blue-violet flowers roughly once every twelve years.
Significance
In Tamil Sangam literature, kurinji is the landscape of the hills — and Murugan is its presiding deity. The temple therefore holds special meaning as a shrine to Murugan in his traditional home among the mountains.
