Kodaikanal is set high in the Palani hills — the same range that gives the temple town of Palani its name. That makes it a natural base for combining a hill holiday with darshan.
The Kurinji Andavar Temple, on the edge of town, is dedicated to Lord Murugan and named after the Kurinji flower that blooms on these hills once in about twelve years. It is a peaceful stop with wide views over the plains.
Palani is the most popular temple trip from Kodaikanal. You can visit on the way down at the end of your holiday, or make it a day trip and return to the hills in the evening.
Madurai is the nearest large city with an airport and major railway station. Many families end their trip with darshan at the Meenakshi Amman Temple and Thiruparankundram before heading home. The drive can continue to Rameswaram for a longer pilgrimage.
The ghat roads are steep and winding, so we recommend an Etios, Innova or Innova Crysta depending on group size.
