The Sri Venkateswara Temple at Tirumala stands on the Seshachalam hills above the town of Tirupati. Lord Venkateswara — also known as Srinivasa, Balaji and Govinda — is worshipped here by millions of devotees each year.
Significance
Tirumala is one of the 108 Divya Desams, praised by the Alvar saints, and is often called the richest and most visited temple in the world. Devotees traditionally offer their hair (mokku) as a mark of surrender, and the Tirupati laddu is one of India’s best-known prasadams.
Pilgrims usually also visit Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple at Tiruchanur, dedicated to the Lord’s consort, and many include the Srikalahasti Temple on the same trip.
Visiting
