The Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple at Thiruthani stands on a hill in northern Tamil Nadu, close to the Andhra Pradesh border. It is the fifth of the Arupadai Veedu.
Significance
Thiruthani is where Lord Murugan is believed to have married Valli, the daughter of a hunter chieftain, and where his anger after the battle with Surapadman subsided — the name is often explained as the place of thanigai, or calm. Devotees also associate the temple with the saint-poet Arunagirinathar and the composer Muthuswami Dikshitar.
Visiting
Being in the north of the state, Thiruthani is usually visited on the last leg of our Arupadai Veedu tour. It also combines well with a Tirupati pilgrimage.
