The Agniswarar Temple at Kanjanur is the Navagraha temple for Sukra, the planet Venus. Unusually, there is no separate idol of Sukra here — Lord Shiva himself is worshipped in the form of Sukra.

Significance

The temple’s name recalls a legend in which Agni, the fire god, worshipped Shiva here. Devotees pray to Sukra for a happy marriage, family harmony, comfort and prosperity. The temple is praised in the Thevaram and is associated with the Shaivite saint Haradatta Sivacharya.
