Tour Overview
The nine Navagraha temples of the Kaveri delta are among the most sought-after pilgrimages in Tamil Nadu. Devotees visit them to seek relief from planetary afflictions, before important life events, or simply as an act of devotion.
The temples lie in small villages spread around Kumbakonam, connected by narrow country roads. Timings differ from temple to temple, and some close for several hours in the afternoon. With a private vehicle and a driver who knows the circuit, all nine can be visited comfortably in two days.
The first day covers the temples closest to Kumbakonam — beginning, as many devotees prefer, with Suriyanar Kovil. The second day heads east towards the coast for Thirunallar, the famous Shani shrine, and the temples near Poompuhar, finishing at Vaitheeswaran Kovil.

Suggested Itinerary

Surya, Sukra, Rahu, Chandra and Guru
Kumbakonam → Suriyanar Kovil → Kanjanur → Thirunageswaram → Thingalur → Alangudi → Kumbakonam
Begin at Suriyanar Kovil (Surya), then Kanjanur (Sukra) nearby. Return towards Kumbakonam for Thirunageswaram (Rahu). After lunch, drive west to Thingalur (Chandra) and south to Alangudi (Guru). Overnight in Kumbakonam.

Shani, Ketu, Budha and Angaraka
Kumbakonam → Thirunallar → Keezhperumpallam → Thiruvenkadu → Vaitheeswaran Kovil → Kumbakonam
Early start for Thirunallar (Shani) near Karaikal, with the Nala Theertham bath. Continue north to Keezhperumpallam (Ketu) and Thiruvenkadu (Budha) near Poompuhar. End the circuit at Vaitheeswaran Kovil (Angaraka) and return to Kumbakonam or continue your journey.

- Thirunallar is extremely crowded on Saturdays and during Sani Peyarchi.
- From Madurai or Coimbatore, allow an additional day for the journey to and from Kumbakonam.

Can all nine temples be done in one day?
It is technically possible with a very early start, but it is rushed and tiring. Two days allows proper darshan at each temple and is what we recommend.
Is there a fixed order to visit the Navagraha temples?
Many devotees prefer to begin with Surya. Beyond that, most follow a practical route. We plan around temple timings and your preferences.
Can you arrange parihara poojas?
