The Kailasanathar Temple at Thingalur is the Navagraha temple for Chandra, the Moon. Thingal is the Tamil word for the moon, which gives the village its name.
Significance
The presiding deity is Lord Shiva as Kailasanathar, with a separate shrine for Chandra. Devotees believe that worship here brings peace of mind and relief from afflictions associated with the Moon in one’s horoscope. The temple is associated with the Nayanmar saint Appar and the devotee Appoodhi Adigal, who lived in Thingalur.
Visiting
Thingalur lies on the western side of the Navagraha circuit, close to Thanjavur. It is included in our Navagraha temple tour and the Thanjavur temple tour.
