Tour Overview
Madurai is a city built around its temples, and this one-day tour covers the most important of them without the stress of navigating the old city’s busy streets.
The day begins at the Meenakshi Amman Temple — ideally early, before the crowds build. From there, a short drive takes you to Thiruparankundram, the rock-cut temple where Lord Murugan married Deivanai.
In the afternoon, the drive heads north into the green Alagar hills. At the foot of the hill is the Kallazhagar Temple, a Divya Desam dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and a little higher up is Pazhamudircholai, the sixth abode of Murugan. Together they make a satisfying, well-paced day of darshan.

Early-morning darshan at the Meenakshi Amman Temple, when the queues are shortest. After breakfast, drive to Thiruparankundram, the first of Murugan's six abodes. In the afternoon, head north to the Alagar hills for the Kallazhagar Temple and Pazhamudircholai, the sixth abode. Return to Madurai by evening.
